There’s something powerful about family photography that goes way beyond just “looking nice.” It’s your kid’s belly laugh frozen in time. The way your toddler grips your finger just a little too tightly. Your teenager — still a child in some ways — standing tall in that in-between place of becoming.
That’s why I photograph families.
I’m Maria Yemets, a family photographer Barcelona. And while I love this city — the sea, the light, the energy — what I really love is the people who let me into their lives for just a moment. Not to perform. But to be.
If you’re looking for a Barcelona family photographer who will direct every pose or force smiles, that’s not me. What I want to give you is something softer. Something deeper. Something real.
Let me be honest. My job isn’t just about taking “nice photos.” It’s about noticing. It’s seeing how your daughter looks up at you when you’re not watching. Or how your son’s eyes sparkle when he feels seen. It’s about finding the beauty in what’s already there — the mess, the joy, the ordinary.
And believe me, there’s so much beauty in the ordinary.
When I photograph families, I’m not looking for perfection. I’m looking for truth. Maybe it’s the way you laugh at an inside joke. Or how your baby rests her head on your chest — tired, safe, home.
Here’s the thing no one tells you: it all changes so fast.
That tiny newborn you held just months ago? They’ll be walking. That five-year-old with the missing tooth grin? They’ll be asking for Wi-Fi passwords before you know it. That age 11 photo? Suddenly, it’s 20. And they’re gone — studying, traveling, becoming.
Photos aren’t just keepsakes. They’re evidence. Of who you are. Of who they were. Of everything you held onto along the way.
That’s why I recommend documenting often. Especially in the early years. I usually say:
Newborn to 2 years: Every 6 months.
After 2: Once a year is perfect.
Teen years and beyond: Mark the milestones when they happen.
Because one day, you’ll open an album and say: that was us. And it’ll all come rushing back.
If you ask me where the magic happens, I’ll tell you without hesitation: Castelldefels Beach, 1.5 hours before sunset.
There’s just something about it. The sea glows. The wind plays with hair and linen dresses. The kids run free. Parents breathe.
And that light? It’s gentle. Forgiving. Poetic.
You don’t need to do anything except show up. Be barefoot. Let the moment unfold. And I’ll be there, quietly capturing it.
Working together over time is where the magic really grows.
We build trust. You know what to expect. Your kids recognize me — maybe even run up to hug me. And that shows in the photos. They’re not guarded or posed. They’re free.
And because I already know your family’s rhythm, I can move with it. That’s what makes a session feel like a memory instead of a performance.

Listen. I know we all live on our phones now. But I beg you — don’t leave your memories on a screen.
Print them. Frame them. Hang them in your hallway or above the crib or next to your desk. Let your children see themselves. Let your home whisper: You belong here. You’re loved.
And if you ever need help turning your images into a gift or gallery, I’ve got you. I offer albums, fine art prints, and handmade keepsakes with most sessions.
That’s okay too.
Not every session needs to be deep or emotional. Sometimes you just need a few gorgeous, well-lit photos that reflect who you are. No filters. No fuss. Just you.
I’ve worked with people who wanted photos for dating profiles, personal branding, or just “because.” You’d be amazed how powerful it feels to be truly seen — no matter the reason.

Join the club. Honestly, some of my favorite photos were taken in tiny kitchens, cluttered playrooms, and during full toddler meltdowns.
You don’t need a perfect home. Or a perfect mood. You just need to show up as you are. I’ll take care of the rest.
Want to stay home for your shoot? I love that. We’ll find good light, make tea, and capture life as it really is. Those photos? They hit different.
From cobbled alleys to golden beaches, here are a few favorite spots:
San Sebastián Beach: Yes, it’s touristy. But if you know where to go (and I do), it’s pure magic.
Gothic Quarter: Moody light, ancient stone, quiet corners.
Park Ciutadella: Open green spaces and dreamy paths.
El Born: A mix of romance and history.
And of course — Castelldefels Beach at golden hour – my favourite spot.

You don’t need much.
Some flowy clothes. Neutral tones. Bare feet are always welcome. If you want more help, check out my guide on what to wear for a session.
We’ll talk before the shoot so I understand what you want. During the session, I guide gently — never pushy. We pause if we need to. It’s calm, present, easy.
Afterward, you get a curated gallery you can download, print, or cry over. (Yes. It happens.)
And if you’re not sure whether a session is right for you, just send me a message. I’m always happy to talk it through. → Say Hello
